EPSON REINVIGORATES MERCEDES PITSTOP

A collaboration between Epson and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS has resulted in world’s first glow-in-the-dark pit stop.

The world of motorsport will be bewitched by a vibrant new innovation at the iconic night-time racing of the Singapore Grand Prix thanks to a collaboration between Seiko Epson Corporation and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS.

This innovation is the world’s first glow-in-the-dark pit stop, created using MERCEDES motorsport expertise and Epson’s “market leading products”. Epson transformed Lewis Hamilton’s regular chariot, the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS race car, into a glow-of-the-dark version by using an Epson SureColour SC-S Series printer to print out “luminous material that was wrapped around the car and glow-in-the-dark versions of the car’s iconic branding.”

Once this feat had been accomplished, the racetrack’s lights were all switched off and the MERCEDES team was able to complete the very first glow-in-the-dark pit stop, executing their speedy tyre changes on the shining car while using “glowing overalls and equipment”.
Epson used its flagship EB-L25000U, the first 3LCD laser projector in the world, with 25, 000 lumens and 4K enhancement, to help create an even more impressive effect. The corporation hopes that this concept will “encourage Formula One™ fans to look at pit stops in an entirely new light, while demonstrating the global technology leadership of both Epson and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Motorsport in a compelling manner.”

With the Singapore Grand Prix taking place this weekend, 15-17 September, we won’t have to wait long to see this luminous new motorsport technology in action.
